Kristin Magette, a longtime Kansas K-12 advocate, author, communications specialist and former president of the Kansas School Public Relations Association, has been hired by KASB as Assistant Executive Director of Community and Communications Engagement.
Magette, of Eudora, will help school districts expand and enhance communication and engagement efforts to build trust within their communities.
“In today's world, schools can't afford to take families and students for granted. We have to be intentional with telling our story, sharing our values and giving families a reason to choose and trust us with their kids,” Magette said.
Magette is passionate about public education, saying it is the foundation of our society. She and her husband are products of public schools, and her two teen-aged children attend Eudora USD 491.
Magette was communications director for the Eudora district from 2006 to 2018. She then went to work for Willdan Group, an engineering firm which is a KASB Prestigious Partner, and most recently CEL Marketing PR Design, a creative group committed to the betterment of family, business and community.
She is the author of two books on the strategic use of social media to help districts communicate and teach. They are “The Social Media Imperative: School Leadership and Strategies for Success,” and “Embracing Social Media: A Practical Guide to Manage Risk and Leverage Opportunity.”
Magette said that despite our polarized political atmosphere, it is possible to bring a wide range of interests together in support of public schools. It requires connecting with people one-on-one and listening to them, she said. She also said the education community should do all it can to encourage people to vote and participate in civic affairs to ensure the brightest future for Kansas.
Magette will come on board with KASB on Aug. 22.
