Six years ago, Education Commissioner Dr. Randy Watson conducted 27 meetings across the state to determine what Kansans thought a high school graduate should be able to do.
The discussions and surveys led to the state’s Kansans Can vision on student success and school redesign program that focuses on improving kindergarten readiness, individual plans of study, social and emotional well-being, high school graduation and postsecondary success.
Now it’s time to hit the road again to see how the plan is working and whether any changes are needed, Watson told the State Board of Education on Tuesday.
He and Deputy Commissioner Brad Neuenswander will start a 46-town tour in late July that will continue through the fall.
Watson said he hopes the meetings will attract school board members, teachers, parents, students, business leaders, higher education officials and anyone interested in public education.
