State education leaders Tuesday announced the schools and districts that have been selected for the next round of the Kansans Can School Redesign Project.
The Apollo III cohort will include: Andover USD 385 (Sunflower Elementary and Wheatland Elementary); Columbus USD 493 (Park Elementary); Emporia USD 253 (Riverside Elementary and Timmerman Elementary); Hutchinson USD 308 (Graber Elementary, Morgan Elementary, Hutchinson Middle 7 and Hutchinson Middle 8); Winfield USD 465 (Lowell Elementary, Whittier Elementary and Winfield Early Learning Center).
The districts will be redesigned around the State Board of Education’s five outcomes — improving kindergarten readiness, high school graduation rates, individual plans of study, post-secondary success and social and emotional health.
Now 194 schools in 71 districts have undergone or are undergoing the redesign process.
“We are really proud and excited with these numbers but we realize there is still a lot of work to be done,” said Tammy Mitchell, who along with Jay Scott, have been leading the Kansas State Department of Education’s Redesign Project.
